Caring and feeding your SGI

The Chemistry department has about 15 SGI machines, from Indigo^2's to Origin 200 machines. They currently are somewhat of the black sheep here, having been neglected by any centralized administration.

Software

Installing the CUE (Chemistry UNIX Environment) software on your SGI

Upgrading to the latest release of IRIX - currently 6.5.23 (6.5.22 for Indigo, Indy, and Challenge)

Enabling OpenSSH in IRIX - Securely administer and transfer files to and from your machine remotely.

Basic steps for securing your IRIX installation?

Hardware

If you feel like having some old SGI Indigo's (33MHz), come see Thomas Stromberg in the ITG. We've got about 6 of them, and they make purple good cases and cabinets.

Also, I have a spare Octane system motherboard that needs a good home.
